Midwinter Dream Fragments

Midwinter Dream Fragments

A silent movie walks into a bar.
Far off to the east  fragments of cloud

hover in the foreground, closing credits. The clear blue sky
revolves behind them like a child’s picture lamp

before it catches on fire. But the sky does not move.

Only the clouds are moving, their vacancy signs
flashing as they pass the moon.

Jeff, the whole poem is incredible…the usual superlatives apply! But that first line just blows me away! Would you tell us what and how much you drink before a writing session. But if it’s non-alcoholic, I don’t wanna know!

      Thank you, Ron.

On the question of drink: Most nights it’s jasmine green tea or oolong. Some nights it’s coffee. And some nights, in a long-respected tradition of Tu Fu, Li Po and others and in honor of my ancient Chinese poet friend Mei Yao-ch’en, it’s wine. Lately that has been a Washington state Riesling.

Thanks Chris! I knew you’d appreciate that first line. I think one could even be justified launching a whole series of poems beginning with “X… walks into a bar.” Hmm.
